Create your web site NOW!
It takes time to rank with Google, Bing, Yahoo and other search engines. Get your domain created. Get your web site up and running. Start adding content to it right away. You don’t need to start with a fancy e-commerce site, but you must get something going. The final function, look, and feel of your site will evolve, so don’t worry about that yet.
I recommend the WordPress.org platform. Then, I recommend hosting it with DreamHost. WordPress is the largest platform out there with many themes and custom plugin options. You can customize it however you like. You don’t need to do any coding. But whatever you choose, get the ball rolling now.
Start a blog
Before I lead you down the path of launching your home business startup, start blogging about what you love to do. Post at least once per week, but more is better. Write at least 500 words per post, but again, more is better.
When you pass 1500 words, think about breaking it into two parts. Use pictures and keep your key words in mind as you go. Put those key words in all tag locations in each post and in each picture. Put a link within each picture pointing to the post that it came from.
Build your brand
The point here is to start building your brand. You may not have a business model or a business plan for your home business startup yet, but you know what you love to do. Start engaging with your target audience and provide them with helpful content. I added some good links in this paragraph for you to open in a new window and learn more about each topic.
Writing content not only builds your brand, but it also gets you excited and focused about the home business startup venture you’re about to enter in. Do solid research prior to each post. This not only keeps you credible, but it will also fill in gaps. Always increase your knowledge and expertise.
Your home business startup idea
Develop a thought-path to your solution. What is it about your business idea? Why do you feel this one should be developed. Take the time to map out a thought process which leads to your solution. Create an interesting infographic!
Simplify your home business startup idea. Make it easy for “outsiders” to understand quickly. You can see the vision for your idea clearly…you developed it! Be creative and spend time simplifying your vision in a way that will catch the attention of your target audience within two seconds. Now simplify your infographic!
Build a prototype
Presenting a tangible solution has impact. You’ve shown them the thought process which leads to your idea. Now provide your target audience with a tangible representation of it.
This may be something physical. It may also be an app or a web site. Create a functional representation so it can be shown.
Turn your idea into something valuable
What makes something valuable? Seth Godin refers to “commodity pricing” in his book Free Prize Inside. A commodity becomes valuable when people are willing to pay more than the commodity price. Turn your idea into something remarkable.
“Remarkable” simply means that a customer is willing to make a remark about it. If you can create remarkable products, people will talk about them. If that happens, the word will spread and your sales will grow.
Create a home business startup space
The usual space used for a home business startup is a bedroom or den converted into an office. Designate this space for your business and use it for only that. You can write off that space on your taxes as a percentage of your entire home, but it MUST be a single-purpose space. So clean it out. No storage is allowed unless it’s related to your business.
Home office
For some real inspiration, this google image search is jam packed with stylistic ideas. But don’t fantasize too much, you need to get to work. If your home business startup only has a small budget, you can buy a counter-top piece at Lowes and attach it to the wall with brackets. Be sure to use a stud-finder.
Create a home business startup space which is conducive to how you plan to operate. From desks and other worktops, to the storage, plan it to be well organized. You should have a nice flow. Efficiency is key, especially in a small space.
Garage
Again, if you use this space for your home business startup, it can only be used for that. No cars, and no storage of non-business related stuff may go in there.
Home Business Startup Options – Part 2
Next, I’ll show you how to turn your skills into a business. Freelancing, which can make you a nice living, is only the starting point. To turn freelancing into a business means hiring or outsourcing the work. That way you can grow your business. I’ll show you how to do that in Home Business Startup Options – Part 2.
