Working at Intel has been great. Not only do I enjoy good pay and benefits, but also, I have a place where I can meet and connect with people who are smarter, even much smarter than me. As a project manager, one important trait is having the ability to surround myself with people who are smarter than me in order to achieve great things.
Networking
To be effective at job seeking, develop your networking skills now! Go here: http://www.entrepreneur.com/topic/networking and read everything they list. Then google more reading material about networking and relationship-building…and study-up. Job seeking may start with applying for jobs, but everyone is already doing that.
Build relationships
Don’t try to rush when you’re job seeking. It will take time, that’s just a fact of life. If you wish to connect with people who work at Intel or any company, you need to develop relationships with them. Focus on each person, genuinely. Don’t push them to help you get a job. And you can’t fake it, you’re dealing with very smart people here. Get to know them personally, and show genuine interest in them. Make it about them, not you!
Job seeking requires more than an impressive background
You may have an impressive resume and background, but most people at Intel and other companies have that too. My manager has over 100 patents. Most interns and employees at Intel who are recent grads, have graduated from accredited universities with GPAs of 3.8 and higher. That is the norm. Go above and beyond the norm by developing friendships.
Again…build relationships!
Build relationships without trying to promote yourself. Actually make friends. That will impress people more than your background will. You may eventually get referred! It takes discipline to focus and to make friends vs. promoting yourself for the sake of finding a job…I get that! You need job seeking stamina! Stay strong!
Job seeking requires consistency, by default
Yes, even though everyone is already doing this, get your profile and your resume into the system at companies and job seeking sites like monster.com and indeed.com. Apply for every job as it comes up and follow-up consistently. Do this with each and every job you apply for. Just know that you’ll probably not get very many responses, so keep at it.
Intel has a great Jobs at Intel web page. Be sure to utilize that regularly, if you’re interested in working for Intel specifically.
It’s very important to have an impressive background prior to job seeking. If you’re in school, get internships often and perform exceptionally in them. This builds experience and it also connects you with people you can now add to your network.
Don’t slow down or stop until you get interviews. Remember…you need job seeking stamina! Stay strong!
To conclude
If you make it about the future, and not about the “now”, you’ll have a better chance of success. Take the time to build real relationships first. Getting genuine referrals from people who actually know you will not only help get you in, but it will help you get places after you’re in. …Just my advice 🙂
Good Luck!!! I wish you all the best…

Great advice! Sincere networking is important in everyday living. Collecting names as contacts is definitely a no go. Take time out to get to know your contacts and really connect with what is important to them. You may find you have ways to collaborate that work for both of you!
That’s right Donna-Luisa. Get to know them. Thanks for stating that!
